Gall Bladder Cancer

Gall Bladder Cancer

Gallbladder cancer is a relatively rare but aggressive malignancy that arises in the gallbladder, a small organ beneath the liver responsible for Liver Juice. Unfortunately, symptoms of gallbladder cancer often go unnoticed until the disease reaches advanced stages, contributing to its poor prognosis.

Risk factors for gallbladder cancer include age, with a higher incidence in individuals over 70, as well as being female, having a history of gallstones, chronic inflammation of the gallbladder, and certain genetic conditions. While the exact cause remains unclear, chronic inflammation is believed to play a significant role in the development of this cancer.

Symptoms may include abdominal pain, jaundice, unintended weight loss, and changes in bowel habits. Diagnosis typically involves imaging studies, such as ultrasound and CT scans, along with biopsy for confirmation.

Treatment options depend on the cancer stage and may involve surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Unfortunately, due to the late diagnosis in many cases, gallbladder cancer has a high mortality rate. Early detection and advances in treatment modalities are crucial in improving outcomes for individuals affected by this challenging disease. Regular medical check-ups and prompt evaluation of symptoms can contribute to the early detection of gallbladder cancer, potentially enhancing the chances of successful intervention.
